NYE & stuff

I know it's not Christmas anymore, but this is probably my favorite ornament and I spotted it today (on basically the back of the tree because I don't get to decorate it.) It's a Santa that I got at a craft store in Uganda last December.
So I was going to compile a list of my favorite songs, movies, books, etc. of 2009. Good idea right? Then I realized that I think I may have only made it to the movie theater 5 times this past year.. and none of the movies changed my life (even remotely.) I also realized that I don't read new books that often. When I can squeeze in some non-required reading, it's usually from the stack of books that I've bought over the years with hopes that someday I'd be able to read them. So all I have are my list of the 5 best songs of 2009 (as far as I'm concerned.)

Hearing Damage/FeelingPulledApartByHorses by Thom Yorke
What Would I Want, Sky? by Animal Collective
Convinced of the Hex by The Flaming Lips
Harmless Sparks by David Bazan
In These Arms by The Swell Season

There you have it.

My new year's eve is going to be spent in sweatpants watching movies with Sam and eating good food. AWESOME! I think we are even going to go to my all time favorite place to pick up some snacks... Whole Foods.

Have a good & safe new year!

Des beignets de Cafe Du Monde

I made some Beignets today from a mix Sam got me for Christmas. In the process I almost started a grease fire, but this is not the part I would like to focus on (though it is what my dad would, most likely since it happened in his kitchen.) I would focus on the more cheery aspect which is two-fold... 1. they are absolutely delicious (and I will probably gain about 5 lbs. which will prove that) and 2. one came out shaped like a boot! I felt like a little kid finding shapes in the clouds when I figured this one out. As you can tell, I'm having a very nice, relaxing (minus the almost fire) break. Next I'm going to attempt croissants (probably sometime when my dad isn't home.) I like to take advantage of my parents' kitchen as much as possible since mine is the size of a shoebox.

Have a nice day.

I never know how to start something like a blog so how about with a weird picture and list of random things that I've done or want to do (recently/in the near future)

- I would like to go on a hike
- I finished reading the Twilight Saga ;)
- I started reading the unedited, leaked version of Midnight Sun on Stephenie Meyer's blog because I'm a full on junkie now I guess.
- I would like to learn to bake croissants.
- I saw "It's Complicated" with my mom today and was pleasantly surprised.
- I would like to go to sleep now.
